What do you know about Elijah?
Which of these statements are true of Elijah who we read about in the Old Testament?
Which are true of our Elijah who goes to TCC?
Or both?

He is a prophet
He is 8 years old
He tells people messages from God
He likes eating bread and meat
He is a good runner
He stands up for what is right and true even when other people might not
He worships and obeys God
He can make it rain

READ 1 KINGS 17

Elijah was a prophet - that means he told people messages from God.

He told King Ahab and Queen Jezebel that it wasn’t going to rain for the next few years because God was unhappy that they were worshipping idols and encouraging the people to worship idols.
After he told them the message, he went and hid.
He drank water from the nearby stream and God sent birds called ravens to feed him bread and meat - wow, imagine that!
Some time later the stream dried up, so God told Elijah to go to Zarephath, and he did.
He saw a woman there who was collecting firewood. He asked her for a drink of water and some bread.
She told Elijah that she only had enough flour and oil to make one last meal for her and her son.
Elijah said to her, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: The bowl will not run out of flour or the jar run out of oil before the day that I, the Lord, send rain.”
She made food for Elijah and there was always enough flour and oil for the three of them from then on.
But, one day her son got sick and then he died!
She said to Elijah, “Man of God, why did you do this to me? Did you come here to remind God of my sins and so cause my son's death?”
Elijah prayed for her son and he came back to life!
The woman said, “Now I know that you are a man of God and that the Lord really speaks through you!”

The story of Elijah will continue next week ….

Some things to think about:
- Our choices have consequences, not just for us but often for others as well.
- In Elijah’s time the bad choices made by the king and queen meant that God stopped the rain and so there was a famine. Everyone suffered.
- No matter what, we can trust GOD!

Remember Romans 8 v 28 …God works for the good of those who love him…
