ESTHER : THE GIRL WHO BECAME QUEEN
Here is another A-M-A-Z-I-N-G Old Testament story about a young girl who became a Queen (found in the book of Esther.) She realises that she was born "for such a time as this" and makes a real difference for her people by doing what is right.
Watch the Veggie Tales version of the story where we are reminded that
"For there is nothing I can't face, when God is at my side"
Try some of the cool activities we've got for you too:)
CREATE A FEAST!
Be like Queen Esther and create a FEAST
This could be a real one where you cook up something delicious for your whanau OR
it could be a virtual feast (see the one below)!
What to do :
For a REAL feast, make a menu (check what you have in your cupboard first), cook and enjoy!
For a VIRTUAL feast, cut out some pictures of food in a magazine, or draw some food pics and stick to a background. You could make a pretend three course meal like snacks, dinner and dessert.
See what we've done below.
SOME THINGS TO THINK ABOUT :
Esther probably didn't have a choice about whether she wanted to be the queen or not.
There are lots of things we don't really have a choice about either. But we do have a choice about how we react to the things that happen to us and around us. How we behave and what we say and how we say it, can make things worse... or better.
In Ephesians chapter 2 verse 1b-2 Paul says to the followers of Jesus... live a life that measures up to the standard God set when he called you. Be always humble, gentle and patient. Show your love by being tolerant with one another.
And also verses 22-29 :
... get rid of your old self... and put on the new self which is created in God's likeness and reveals itself in the true life that is upright and holy
... no more lying... tell the truth
... do not let your anger lead you into sin
... stop robbing and start working
... do not use harmful words, but only helpful words, the kind that build up and provide what is needed, so that what you say will do good to those who hear you
Esther listened to Mordecai and did what was right, even though it was risky and downright dangerous!
A challenge for you :
Think about how you speak to your Mum, your Dad, Nan, sister, brother, your friends...
Ask yourself "Do I need to change that?"
If so, look back at the verses from Ephesians, and ask God to help you make the change.
